ECYCLE Electronic Recycling (PTY) Ltd., founded in 2009, is dedicated to the recycling of all forms of electric and electronic waste (e-waste) and proudly operates according to the standards of the e-Waste Association of South Africa (eWASA). We aim to make a visible difference to both our beautiful planet and our community by recycling e-waste which means being kind to Mother Nature, looking after the earth’s natural resources, helping prevent global warming and lowering our carbon footprint as well as through social empowerment and education.

So, what exactly is e-waste?

E-waste commonly refers to electric or electronic devices (e.g. computers, telephones, DVD players) which have reached the end of their life cycle. They might be broken, outdated or otherwise not useful anymore and therefore discharged. > In short: if it has a plug or runs on batteries and is broken, it is e-waste.

Did you know that e-waste is the fastest growing waste stream in South Africa? Until recently, there was no other option than dumping e-waste in landfills. Dumping e-waste on landfills is the worst solution because e-waste is not only an issue of waste but it contains toxic substances that are very harmful to both humans and the environment. Recycling e-waste means removing these toxic substances and disposing of them in a safe way but it also gives the opportunity to recycle a whole range of reusable materials. The recovery of metals such as gold, silver, copper, aluminium and other rare metals out of e-waste requires about only 1/5 of energy compared to mining them in nature. Most of the plastics and steel can also be recycled for reuse. In this way we help to reduce our common carbon-footprint substantially and save the earth’s natural resources. Our target at ECYCLE is to regain 80% of the total weight of the processed e-waste!

Presently ECYCLE is building up a comprehensive collection and dismantling system of e-waste over the entire rural area of the Western Cape as well as parts of the Northern Cape. As a first step we opened a branch in Paarl to service the Boland area. Beside the actual recycling of e-waste we at ECYCLE spend a lot of energy on informing the public about e-waste, the possibility of recycling it and the options to dispose of e-waste in a safe and responsible way. ECYCLE has started cooperating with local schools where we aim to provide free education about e-waste to pupils and help to educate our future generations in ways to protect our planet. We hope to encourage the public to:

Be kind to Mother Nature
